Description
This
position is intended for a highly
self-motivated individual, able to
receive, understand and complete a
variety of assigned tasks. This
individual must have the ability to also
work alone and/or in a group setting.
The work involves responsibility for the
performance of general laboring as well
basic construction tasks. This position
requires physical endurance and a
willingness to perform arduous tasks at
times in inclement weather. The
incumbent generally uses hand and power
tools to perform the work assigned and
occasionally operates larger equipment
as well. The work is performed under the
guidance of the town highway
superintendent and shall complete tasks
as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Valid Class D NYS Driver's License
required. CDL Not Required. (Experience
in highway operations and general
construction desired not required.)
Typical Job Duties

Performs a variety of manual labor
tasks subject to inclement weather
conditions;

Reasonable for upkeep of Town Parks,
Trails, Buildings & Grounds;

Rakes
and shovels asphalt to patch
potholes or assist in the paving of
roads;

Cuts
brush, removes dead trees, plants
grass, and mows lawns;
-
Cleans debris from Town parking
lots, trails, highways and other
properties;
-
Acts
as a flag person on highway jobs,
coordinating safe pedestrian and
traffic flow;
-
Assist in general repair of town
equipment, buildings and grounds;
-
Snow
blows, Shovels, Plows and spreads
salt on highways, parking lots and
sidewalks;
-
Operates power tools and equipment
such as saws, mowers, trimmers,
trucks, tractors, and other various
equipment used in highway work;
