The month of March brings us longer and warmer days, the start of spring and the eternal hope of new life and better days.  The next meeting of the Town Board is scheduled for Monday, March 14th at 7:00 p.m.  Some of the items that will be covered at this meeting include: zoning officer's report, town clerk's report, supervisor's report, committee reports, a resolution for the town to join the NY Planning federation, consideration of a town credit card, Employee Handbook review, RFP’s for archeological and Soil Testing,  PUD request by Ralph Pascucci, and an annual report by Town Historian Sean Kelleher.  On Thursday, March 10th the Town Board will conduct their monthly agenda meeting at which they will review agenda items scheduled for the March 14th meeting.  In addition, at 6:00 PM prior to the agenda meeting, the second meeting of the Town Hall Building Committee will be conducted.  At this second meeting there will be a presentation by the LA Group on a proposal that they prepared for the Ft. Hardy Committee, member reports on possible available sites, and town hall use and space needs.

Saratoga Lake Association News

Residents are encouraged to join the SLA for 2005.  Dues are only $25. for the year.  Barbara Faraone and Ed Dweck will be serving on the Town Hall Building Committee.  The official website of the Saratoga Lake Association is www.saratogalake.org.

New York State Farmland Protection Program & Saratoga County Farmland and Open Space Preservation Program

The Saratoga County Farmland and Open Space Preservation Committee has provided the Town Hall with copies of the grant application for 2005.  The package includes the program criteria for eligible projects and one grant application form for open space projects and one grant application form for  agriculture.   The application period opens on April 1st and closes June 30th.

Schuylerville-Victory Water Board News

The Water Board is currently working on the water budget and financing details for the water project.  Construction of the new water treatment plant has stopped for the winter and will resume in the spring.  The next water workshop will be held in Victory on March 8th at 6:00 p.m. and the next Water Board meeting will be held in Victory on March 15th at 7:00 p.m.  

March Tax Collection Schedule

During the month of March, Town Tax Collector Joyce Shaver will be in the Town Hall Conference Room on Mondays only from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.  Taxes may be mailed to Joyce at anytime.  If you have any questions for Joyce call her at 695-3644 X 18.

Quaker Springs Fire Department News

                On Sunday, March 13th, The Quaker Springs Fire Department will conduct their annual Corned-beef & Cabbage dinner at the firehouse from 12:00 noon – 3:00 PM.  Reservations are recommended and may be made by calling 584-2758 or 584-3829.  Takeouts are also available.  The cost is $8.00 for adults, $4.00 for children ages 6 – 12, and free for children 5 and under.  The annual membership banquet will be conducted on Saturday March 19th.  The QSFD is looking for people that would like to volunteer to become Firefighters or Fire Police.  In addition they are looking for support from people that may not be interested in becoming firefighters or fire police members, but would be willing and able to help with the administration, fire safety promotional work, fund raising, grant writing, catering, and truck and equipment maintenance.  The training is free so if you’ve ever thought about lending a helping hand, please give the QSFD a call at 584-3349.   The department recently received a $64,514. grant from the 2004 Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program.  The funds will be used to install an exhaust system for the firehouse’s truck bays.  The system will consist of tubes that attach to truck exhaust pipes to carry exhaust out of the building.  Over President’s Day weekend the fire department won two silver medals for modified toboggan and snowshoe races at the Fireman’s Association of the State of New York’s 2005 Winter Games in Lake Placid. 

David Nevins Fire Department News

For a fund raiser the David Nevins Fire Department conducts BINGO every Sunday beginning at 5:30 P.M. in the large meeting room at the Victory Office Complex.  No BINGO will be conducted on March 27th.

General Schuyler Emergency Squad News

                The GSES is working with architects and builders on possible plans for their new facilities.  In addition, they will be pursuing various grant sources to obtain new AEDs, a plymovent exhaust system, and special biological safety jackets.
